PiperWai Natural Deodorant | Review

For the past years, I’ve been bouncing from one organic deodorant to another since nothing seemed to work for me. My best find was Aubrey Organics Herbal Pine Deodorant for men, but the scent was just too strong and kind of irritating to use on a daily basis. So when the lovely ladies from PiperWai contacted me regarding their new aluminum-free, yet effective deodorant made with activated charcoal, I got very excited.

As you can see, I have a cute sample jar of PiperWai deodorant. The full packaging is 60 ml jar with a lid. I don’t like using any of my beauty products with my fingers, so I used a clean spatula. I like the scent of this PiperWai deodorant! It’s an intense peppermint-like herbal scent. PiperWai says the deodorant is made with a proprietary blend of eleven therapeutic-grade essential oils that are believed to have specific anti-microbial properties to keep you odor-free.

More about the “odor-free” part. We all know that sweat actually doesn’t stink at all. The not-so-lovely odor appears when annoying bacteria get to the sweat and make your armpits their home. To prevent this from happening, we need to create an environment where bacteria can not survive. We can either wash the armpits right after getting sweaty or use deodorant on clean armpits to prevent this bacteria. Now, I’m not going to preach about the harm of deodorants that contain aluminum, triclosan, parabens, or other “goodies,” I guess you’ve heard many times before about how harmful these ingredients can be. What I want to say is that having a natural alternative feels good. In PiperWai deodorant, these natural alternatives are activated charcoal, sodium bicarbonate (simply, baking soda), and tapioca starch. These ingredients have absorbency and neutralizing powers that do not let that nasty bacteria survive.

See the ingredients:

Tapioca Starch, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Water, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Sodium Bicarbonate, Rosa Centifolia Flower Water, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa)Seed Butter, Tocopheryl Acetate, Lonicera Caprifolium (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Lonicera Japonica (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Magnesium Hydroxide, Activated Charcoal, Essential Oils*: Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil, Eucalyptus Radiata Leaf/Stem Oil, Citrus Reticulata (Tangerine) Leaf Oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Peel Oil, Salvia Sclarea (Clary) Oil, Cymbopogon Citratus (Lemongrass) Leaf Oil, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Oil, Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Leaf Oil, Lavendula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil. Vegan.

Although the color of this deodorant is light gray, it rubs on clear. It doesn’t feel oily or make the armpits sticky but has a more or less silky texture to it. I think this is because it contains skin-conditioning ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter, and cocoa seed butter. I’ve been using PiperWai deodorant for five days straight, mostly in the mornings. I had one active and quite stressful day during which I was sweating a lot, but, thankfully, I didn’t stink. However, I reapplied it that afternoon just to be safe.

Piperwai Natural Deodorant Sample with Activated CharcoalSo overall I would strongly recommend trying this PiperWai deodorant. It doesn’t make sweating disappear (like that would even be normal) but keeps it a little under control and without bad odor.

PiperWai Natural Deodorant retails for $13 and can be purchased online at Piperwai.

I wouldn’t have thought this was a deodorant at first sight, but it really sounds like a great product and very effective x

I love natural deodorants but so many, like this one, contain Baking soda, which really really irritates my sensitive underarms. I so wish I could try this one since it has such rave reviews.

The only effective one I’ve found is by Meow Meow Tweet and it truly keeps me dry (on average days with moderate activity) and completely smell free. No other natural deodorant has worked for me and they offer a trial size for purchase. So for any of you other sensitive ladies or gents out there like me, give it a try.

Thanks for sharing this review!

I have suffered for years and done everything to get rid of the odor under my arms. This is the first time ever that I don’t have odor. It lasts for hours and I don’t feel self-conscious anymore.

I’ve have been trying different natural deodorants for a while. None hold up on sweating or odor. I heard about piperwei and decided to give it a shot. The first week I was amazed!! It was the best with controlling sweating, I had to use more than recommended for odor control. Unfortunately, it gave me a horrible rash!! I stopped using it until the rash healed. I tried it again…. And again in the first day felt like the “pits” of hell!!! Just so frustrated that I can’t find a natural product that will work for me!! I can’t keep… Read more »

I have tried this product for 3 weeks and I’m not happy with it, using it twice a day and I’m still perspire and I start to smell, so if you go out make sure you got this stuff with you. Will go back and try other product.

Bough this deodorant about 1 1/2 month ago. I have very strong sweat and high pH and I wanted to get rid of deodorants with aluminum. This product hasn’t work for me besides giving me a rash in both arm pits. Since day one, the deodorant has not been able to provide the benefits the makers claim. I stared by using about a pea size amount for each arm pits which I gradually increased after a few days because it wasn’t working. Few weeks has passed and I still don’t get any positive results with this product. The makers should… Read more »

Hi Yoyi
Just red all reviews on the piperwai deodorant, I bought 2 jars last February, it worked until about 3 weeks ago, i would like to try your home recipe how much of milk of magnesia and how much of sodium bicarbonate do you use to do the mixture. When you apply does it leave white residue?
Thank you!

I was wondering if anyone was having issues with rashes. I was told by my esthetician, that witch hazel is a known skin irritant for some skin types. When I saw Witch Hazel as an ingredient, it threw up a red flag to me right away.

I use this and the first jar was great. No sweating. No smell. Second jar is not the same experience. No smell but I am sweating through horribly. It makes me wonder if the formula has changed. Tried to contact the company but I did not receive a reply. I will order one more time and hope it works. Cross fingers

I have been using this deodorant since Febuary. Loved the smell and it really controlled the odor for more than one day. I was previously using Clinical Strengh regular deodorant without much success. However, I recently started a new batch and like the previous comment, I am also noticing a difference. The color is much lighter and it does not seem to be as moist, almost crunbly in the jar. Also doesn’t seem to control odor as well as the previous jar. Wondering if it becomes less effective as the body uses it more or if the formula has changed. I… Read more »

Just emailed Piper Wai. They replied immediately, said they have a new production facility and asked for my batch number from the bottom of the new jar. They are replacing immediately so hopefully new batch will be like the original. New company going through growing pains so I can appreciate they might have some issues. I’ll trust they will work it out.

I’m so glad it all worked out for you, Marti! That is the best thing about small batch companies that they care about every customer.

Purchased this product a month ago. Love the scent. I have to apply twice a day to keep the door away. I have one huge problem though and I’m going to have to stop using it. I noticed using this product makes my armpits very itchy. It’s so uncomfortable and hurt so bad that I decided last night I can’t use this anymore. I thought it would go away but I see it’s still itchy. Trying to let my armpits heal and then figure something out. Idk what I’m going to do yet.

Try a fresh lemon. Just squeeze a small slice on your fingers and rub it in!

I tried this deodarant, piperwei and it did not prevent the growth of bacteria so i ended up stinking like body odor. It was really embarrassing and I don’t recommend this product for anyone.

I am so surprised by the negative comments about this product, though I guess some skin types just handle some of the ingredients differently. I live in Houston, Texas. Humidity and boiling hot capital. I have used every deodorant on the market…spray, roll on, solid, gel, clinical, natural, you name it. All to no avail. Then decided to make my own. Worked ok, but stung after shaving and didn’t prevent odor on the really hot days. Then, the miracle of Piper Wai happened. I have no itching, no burning, even right after shaving. I was out at a baseball game… Read more »

I bought piperwai deodorant after seeing the product on shark tank. I was excited to see a natural product that they claim works. Let me first give you my background: I have tried EVERY SINGLE deodorant product on the market. I do not have a problem with perspiration, but rather the bacteria under arms that results in odor. I used to have to wash my armpits at least 3 times a day, and I used clinical strength deodorant. I kept a bar of dial soap in my purse in case I was out, and the deodorant wore off (yes it… Read more »

I’ve been using Piper Wai since your first appearance on television. Thanks, too, for the explanation about NO aluminum in the product. My consciousness was recently raised on that subject, and I’m glad to see that Piper Wai does not contain it. After a shower when I complete my work around my three+ acres of pasture and barnyards, it’s a nice refresher!
