Girl Talk: TOTM

Time Of The Month Feminine Hygiene ProductsAfter my switch to a healthier lifestyle, which included using natural cosmetics and eating balanced, healthy diet (or, at least, trying my hardest), I was looking for safe and natural replacement for my feminine hygiene products. About four years later, I’m still surprised how difficult it is to find organic products of that sort. Where I live, organic sanitary products are mostly available in organic stores and believe me there are not too many brands to choose from. I did some research online and found out that it’s a common problem in many other countries in Europe (except maybe Germany, this country is heaven for all types of organic products). Which means this is an issue for many of us, girls.

First of all, I’d like to shortly state why it’s important to choose organic feminine hygiene products over regular:
* they are safer for you – most of the mainstream sanitary products are bleached using chlorine dioxide, which is potentially toxic. There’s an excellent article explaining the danger of dioxins on Naturally Savvy blog;
* they are safer for the environment – regular hygiene products are made from plastic, the equivalent of 4 plastic bags per pad;
* organic pads are softer to use, breathable, and don’t cause rashes.

TOTM Organic Cotton Feminine HygieneI already have my favorite feminine hygiene brand; however, I am always excited to discover other green companies and see what they have to offer. One of my recent finds is TOTM: That Time Of Month*, a brand and a subscription service with a range of premium certified organic cotton sanitary products. TOTM offers products like tampons (with applicator and non-applicator), pads, and pantyliners. All of TOTM products are certified, safe, and affordable. The brand is currently available only in the UK, but, hopefully, it will expand soon.

What are your favorite feminine hygiene brands?

Hi,

Thank you for this post. I’m slowly trying to have a healthier/green lifestyle and this topic is not – or should I say never – spoken of on blogs. So it feel good to know I’m not the only one thinking about green period products.

Have a nice week.

Hey.. Thanks this is helpful. I have been looking for an alternative option to Tampax and other high street brands as my Doctor warned me of the (well hidden) health risks. Having looked into it more I can’t believe some of the things that go into Tampons.. it’s disgraceful. This looks like a great alternative. I have checked out the website and contacted the owners to ask lots of questions, as well as speaking to my doctor too. Definitely making the switch. Hannah
